We have recieved several posts from those with gray hair asking why we don’t accept gray hair donations.  Believe us, if we could use them, we would take them! Gray hair, as well as some chemically-treated or permanently-colored hair, does not absorb dye at the same rate as other types of hair. It is much harder to color and, once colored, fades more quickly. So when it takes about 6 ponytails to create one wig, we can’t have parts of the wig fade.  Also, gray hair tends to be brittle and cannot withstand the rigorous wig-making process.

You can have your hair cut for Pantene Beautiful Lengths at any salon or even at home! Simply follow the directions listed on the campaign’s web site www.beautifullengths.com.

We have been receiving many questions as to where donors can go to get their hair cut for free or at a discounted price if they are donating their hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.  We know of a couple of places, but if you know of a salon that offers discounted services, please respond to this entry and let others know!

Iowa Cutting Event!

July 24, 2008

On August 12, the public is invited to join Genesis Health System employees in donating their hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.  The event will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in front of the Genesis Cancer Care Institute at Genesis Medical Center, West Central Park, Davenport, Iowa.

Stylists from the Regis Hair Salon will be available to cut the donated hair.  Every person who donates will receive a “Great Savings” card from Regis.  People who donate can then follow up with discounted appointments the same day to have their hair styled or colored.

To set up an appointment to donate your hair, call (563) 421-9272.

On May 21, 2008 more than 60 students within New Jersey’s Franklin Lakes School District donated their hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.  These generous donations were certainly not gone unrecognized as NBC’s the Today show stopped by to capture the cuts live!

Thank you for your truly exceptional donations Franklin Lakes!

You may recognize Julianna Mauriello as the sweet and curious, pink-haired Stephanie on Nick Jr.’s Lazy Town.  But recently Julianna unveiled her long, natural brunette locks and donated more than eight inches of her hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.

“I love my new short hair,” Julianna said.  “I also love knowing that my hair helped someone feel more confident and beautiful.”

Thank you for your support Julianna!!
