Do you know how Pantene Beautiful Lengths wigs are created?

bl-wig-from-broll.jpgYour donated ponytails get sent to our partners at HairUWear. For a realistic-looking wig that has consistent color throughout, HairUWear processes and then dyes the donated ponytails blonde, brunette, or red. (It takes at least six ponytails to make one Pantene Beautiful Lengths wig.) Hair is then transformed into wigs of varying lengths, textures and colors. The finished wigs are sent to the American Cancer Society wig banks and distributed free of charge on a first come first serve basis to women undergoing cancer treatment. To date, we have created 2,000 wigs thanks to your generous donations. The more donations we receive, the more wigs we can provide to women. If you have questions about whether your hair meets the donation requirements, please visit the “Hair Requirements” section of the Pantene Beautiful Lengths website (http://www.pantene.com/en_US/beautifullengths/requirements.jsp) or call us at 1-800-945-7768.

My healthcare will not cover the cost of a wig even though my doctor wrote a prescription for a hair prosthesis. I wear scarves, but would love to be able to afford a wig so that I don’t embarass my kids. I’ve heard that there are places to get a wig for little or no cost. Can you inform me?

  2. Donna,

Thank you for reaching out to us. Pantene Beautiful Lengths wigs are FREE. Please contact your local American Cancer Society and they will help you obtain a real-hair wig. Our thoughts and best wishes are with you.
